The National Rifle Association Pistol Safety course instructs participants in the safe handling of firearms. This is the safety course required by the State of Connecticut for issuance of a pistol permit. Our program is instructed by Erik Hanson, an NRA Instructor and firearms supervisor for the East Hartford Police Department. This course is delivered with a morning safety lecture and hands-on practical with a pistol. Students break for lunch and reconvene at Wolf's Range in Bristol for an afternoon shooting practical.
Participants must be at least 18 years of age or 16 years old with a parent/guardian present at the start of class. Individuals with a prior felony conviction may not participate in this program. Connecticut has additional requirements for pistol permit issuance - check the CT DESPP website for details.

A certification test is completed at the end of this program. Proficient demonstration of safe firearm handling and a passing score on the written examination is required for certification. Students that do not achieve either of these will be remediated and allowed an additional attempt to test in class.
